The Freedom 251 is the world’s most affordable smartphone priced at Rs 251

The Freedom 251 is the world’s most affordable smartphone priced at Rs 251

Coming to the specs, the Freedom 251 features a 4-inch IPS display bearing a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. The phone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop, and comes pre-loaded with several apps like Women Safety, Swachh Bharat, Fisherman, Farmer, Medical, WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube among others. It is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, coupled with 1GB of RAM.
The phone comes 8GB of internal memory, and gets a microSD card slot to expand the storage further up to 32GB. It’s worth pointing out that a 32GB microSD card will cost you more than the smartphone. The camera department includes a 3.2-meg primary snapper with an LED flash, and a 0.3MP front shooter. Connectivity features include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. Juice is provided by a 1,450mAh battery.
The Freedom 251 comes with a one year-warranty, and is supported by 650 service centres across the country. Pre-ordered units of the phone will be delivered by June 30th.
Ringing Bells says that the Freedom 251 has been developed with immense support from the government, and is touting the device as a success story of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ program. So, how has the company managed to price it so cheap? We don’t know yet, but speculations suggest that it is somehow subsidised by government, since it comes pre-loaded with a few government apps.
