Your Social Media Resume: 6 Facts To Help Create One

Social media is here to stay and its effect on the recruitment process is getting stronger.   While you still need a resume, it must be tailored to fit the social media world.  Recruiters and hiring managers want a quick snapshot of you and they may be looking at you from their smart phone or tablet.  They don’t want to read cover letters and long resumes.  To do this, you need to keep in mind the following facts:
1.  The average read-time of your resume by an employer/recruiter is 5-7 seconds.
2.  76% of resumes are ignored if the email address is unprofessional/cute.
3.  Over 90% of employers use social media for recruiting.
4.  LinkedIn is the most popular social media site for employers.
5.  Recruiters and hiring managers are becoming more positive about video resumes.
6.  According to Careeralism, the most popular resume format is the ‘multinational resume.’  This resume is two pages with strong positioning, branding and use of keywords.
What does this mean?  Your resume must be laid-out properly and be extremely concise.  Don’t use unnecessary words, but use as many keywords as possible.  Don’t worry about past jobs, make sure your current/immediate past ones are focused and relevant.  Think Twitter – just the facts and nothing more.  Refocus your resume for each position. You can use LinkedIn for provide more information.  But remember to position/brand yourself to be found.
